Mission:
What Lies In The Darkness
Location: Chief Counselor's office
Timeline: 248001.01 1201
Thinking it was past time he personally met the chief counselor, the assistant medical chief, Leonardo Giordano, headed down towards the Counseling Center, smiling at everyone he gave eye contact to. Entering the waiting area as someone else was leaving, he noticed there was no one else there and hoped his timing was good. He pressed the chime next to her door and waited.
Serephima looked up as the chime sounded. Folding her wings against her back, she rose and called, “Enter.”
She waited to see who her next visitor would be.
The door opened and Leo stepped inside. "Hi, Counselor Anilon," he smiled, "I'm Doctor Leonardo Giordano, the assistant chief of medical, I was at the staff briefing earlier. I was wondering if this would be a good time for us to talk?"
Serephima smiled a welcome, saying, “Of course. Please be seated, Dr. Giordano. May I offer you some refreshment?”
"No, thank you," he replied, not feeling the need, as he sat in a chair facing hers.
As Serephima settled into her chair, she asked, “How May I help you, Doctor?”
Leo smiled, "Well, with our departments so close, I thought it would be nice if we got to know each other a little."
Serephima smiled as she said,” I would like that. I am still learning my way around and have had very little time to make the acquaintance of others. What shall I tell you about myself?”
"How about anything you feel comfortable with," he suggested. "Nothing too personal..of course."
Serephima thought for a moment, then said, “My home world is called Nandalon—we have lived in seclusion for many generations after finally pushing out a conquering race we called Xandor—our term for monster. I am one of a very few who have ventured off world, but I felt a need to see more of the galaxy and its people. I am convinced that not all are like the Xandor...”
She thought for a moment more, then said, ”I like to make handmade crafts—in the old tradition—and I like to spar with others....centuries ago, we were a warrior people and we still have that interest in battle and strategy.”
"Oh, really?" Leo looked mildly surprised. He had found what she said about her people quite interesting but still hadn't expected the latter. "I'd actually liked to see that."
Serephima smiled, saying, ”Perhaps we could spar sometime. I think it would be quite challenging.” She smiled, continuing, “ Now it is your turn. Tell me about yourself.”
"Um, okay." He grinned, "But first of all, I've never sparred but I'm willing to learn. And...hmmm, well..." He thought about her mention of making handmade crafts, and added, "I love to sketch and water paint."
“That sounds like a wonderful hobby,” Serephima replied with a smile. “If it is not an imposition, I would like to see them sometime. I will show you some of my crafts as well.”
Leo nodded. "Sounds like a plan." He looked pleased and staring at her in silence for a moment, decided to ask, "So what brought you here to FarVoyager?"
“Many things, I think, but foremost a need to learn more of the universe and the people in it...Nandalon has remained isolated for a long time—-after our experience with the Xandor we were reluctant to trust offworlders for so long that I believe it has harmed us—made us more vulnerable...”
"I'm sorry to hear that," Leo frowned.''As unfortunate as it is, it's understandable. I hope in time your people will feel less that way."
“That is my hope as well,”. Serephima replied, continuing, “And it is also my hope that my example will encourage others to venture off world as well. We shall see.”
Leo nodded at that. "I certainly hope so," he said, sounding very sincere while looking at her intently. She was very lovely and definitely had him intrigued. He smiled, about to say more when suddenly Lyta's voice came over the comm, "All crew of FarVoyager, we are now at Yellow Alert. Senior Staff to the bridge. All other personnel to stations. This is not a drill."
Serephima looked up as Lyta’s voice came over the comm.
“It appears our duties are beginning,” she said as she rose. “Shall we?”
Leo nodded, "Yeah," as he rose out of his seat, with concern etched into his features. His shift didn’t normally start until later, but under the circumstance, he knew he would be expected in Medical. "I'd love to continue our conversation another time soon," he had managed to say with a sincere smile as they headed towards the door.
As Serephima walked with Leo toward the door, she returned his smile, saying, "That would please me greatly. Perhaps a meal next time?" she asked.
It didn't take Leo long to decide. "Sounds great," he replied cheerfully while standing off to the side for her to go out of the office before him.
