The Sim

The year is 2480, and the war between the Vernel Alliance and the Interstellar Coalition has been over for ten years. Every galactic power is on the search for new resources, and the Interstellar Coalition finds aid in a contract with ShadowDragon Enterprises, the largest corporate interest in the galaxy.

ShadowDragon Enterprises, for its part, has begun a large-scale project called the FarVoyager Project, a multi-generational starship that is more of a flying city, designed to go beyond the reach of all of the known powers and find new resources for the company. But a project this large needs more crew than ShadowDragon Enterprises can spare alone, so its owner Ashlyn did something she swore she would never do. She signed contracts with governments.

One of those governments was the Interstellar Coalition. The other was the Builder Empire. The Builders provided some technology that was beyond even ShadowDragon Enterprises’ high standard, but in exchange they required oversight on some of it. This contract also stipulated that, should the FarVoyager pass near any of their Sector Posts, they would investigate their status for report back to the Builder Empire. She further supplemented her crew by contracting some people specifically for this project.

The FarVoyager herself is, as stated above, more of a flying city than a standard starship. As such, she has some features not found on typical starships. One is the Arcade, a three-deck shopping mall. Another is the Park Deck. As the newest and largest of ShadowDragon Enterprises’ line of ships, she sports a lot of new technology that has been tested before but never on this scale. Because of her size, she has a new breed of Artificial Intelligence to assist the crew as well.

Her first assignment will come, however, not from Ashlyn of ShadowDragon Enterprises, but from the Builder Empire. They have received an intermittent distress call from one of their Sector Posts, and they have asked, per their contract with ShadowDragon Enterprises, that it be the first stop the FarVoyager makes. Why is it sending a distress call? Who is sending it? And what caused its distress? It will be the job of this new crew to find out.
