Mission:
What Lies In The Darkness
Location: Arcade Coordinator's office
Timeline: 248001.01 0930
Sarah left the office not entirely surprised but still a bit bemused. She was to take over the department. She put her small tablet into an inner pocket after locking the screen and checked her chronometer. She was due back at the office but not for a bit yet so she decided to swing by her husband's office to see him and update him on this rather interesting life change.
After a time she found herself in the bustling chaos of the Arcade. Shops were open and vendors sold their wares to the throngs who strolled along. She also saw the hidden cameras and the security personnel who were in strategic locations to watch for trouble makers and pickpockets. She mentally nodded approval as a uniformed clad arm snaked out and grabbed a young man. The other arm just held patiently until the young man dropped a small gem in it. She watched him walk the young man back to a jewelry vendor before turning to head towards her husband's place.
In a nice-sized office located on the top floor of the Arcade, Jaxon Dominie pushed himself away from his desk to stand looking out a large picture window at the activity when he saw her heading his way. Smiling, he waved, uncertain if she had ever seen him with all the people walking by between them.
Sarah had been looking for him, she couldn't quite seem him clearly at this distance. Seeing someone there in the window, she waved and headed over, his form clarifying as she came closer. She dodged other sentients as she moved smoothly through the crowd. Closer to the window she smiled at him and made for the door.
With his eyes following her, his smile grew as she entered through the door. "Hi!" he went around his desk and towards her with more of a questioning expression. "I wasn't expecting to see you until lunch."
She smiled and went in for a quick kiss before leaning on his desk. "I've had a morning." She said, the tone indicating interesting, not dangerous, "Got time to hear it?" She asked not wanting to assume he wasn't busy.
"Well, yes," he nodded, feeling more intrigued than anything, "For you, I'll always make time."
She smiled with a gentle appreciation in her eyes, she supposed she'd have to keep him if he kept saying such nice things about her. "The Chief of Security was apparently under a false flag operation. I've just spent the morning cleaning up the mess." She then went into detail about her lackluster boss being a hiding war criminal, she'd spent the morning making sure no surprises were left behind only to be summoned by the Captain to interview for new Chief of Security.
Initially, Jaxon's jaw had dropped and he blinked. Now he understood why the ship had come to a stop and wanted more detail on the former security chief but knew he'd been told as much as what was allowed. "Wow..." he shook his head while needing to reign in his imagination. "That's just...so crazy." It was a crazy universe; he had decided a long time ago.
Wanting to be supportive, he gently took hold of her arms while looking into her eyes. "But, congratulations on the promotion. You're going to be great."
She leaned into it turning it into a hug, life always seemed a bit less stressful here in this position than most any other. "I certainly hope so. I feel like I've been doing it already with the previous office holder being so uninterested in the day to day but this is rather different." Her tone more matter of fact than complaining.
"Yeah, I understand," he said empathetically while holding her close. "I can imagine you have a lot to take care of within the department right now." They ended the hug but he still held onto her. "So, what can I do to help? Umm...pick up dinner tonight?" he smiled, "Distract you afterward...?"
She smiled up at him, he never failed to garner a smile from her. "Is it rather too much if I say both?" She asked with hopeful gentle humor in her voice.
His smile grew as he shook his head. "Of course not. Sooo, it sounds like you have a date."
Sarah smiled, "Sounds like I do." She said quietly pleased. "What a thoughtful husband I have." She said giving him a quick peck before pulling back, "How was your day before I complicated it?" She said lightly but honestly curious.
"Well, first of all, you haven't complicated it." Jaxon slowly pulled away while glancing towards his desk at the stack of datapads next to his personal computer, a filled candy dish and coffee cup nearby. "And it's going well...if not a little boring. I just finished going through some approved contract adjustments and client requests. Ehhh," he crinkled his face, "Not exactly my favorite part of the job."
"As my mother would tell me if we want dessert we must first eat our vegetables." She smiled at him softly, "I am sure you will slay all your dragons." She said confidently then checked her chronometer and frowned, "As I have to slay mine." She continued reluctantly recalling the multiple ongoing projects she had to clear the department of the former Chief of Security's leftovers.
"Yeah..." he caught the mannerism and knew she needed to get going. "wise woman, your mother. Well, I'll see you after work...our date," he grinned, "don't forget."
Sarah smiled, "Highlight of my day." She gave him a quick kiss, "A promise." She gave a little before turning around to tackle her day. Made somewhat easier by what she had to look forward to.
