Personality & Traits
General Overview | Allen seems to be more intuned with his technology than other people. While that isn't the case -- he actually likes other people -- he does have a tendency to get into what he's doing and ignore the world. When not engrossed in some engineering project, though, he is kind and open, if somewhat quiet.
Strengths & Weaknesses | + Brilliant engineer + Friendly + Good work ethic - Sometimes too quiet - Can get too engrossed in a project |
|
Ambitions (optional) | Allen is doing what he loves, fixing and building things. Ambitions are for those people who need to prove something to the universe or to themselves. He doesn't.
Hobbies & Interests | Allen loves building things, learning new technologies, and exploring innovative ways of doing things. He enjoys good conversation with intelligent people and if those people happen to be engineers, all the better. He draws, though not well, and paints a bit. He plays the piano fairly well but an acoustic guitar better. |
Personal History & Notes
Personal History | Allen Radner was born on one of the Coalition's fringe colonies. The colony did not have as regular maintenance as more core worlds did, and so the colonists learned to fix things as they could. That being said, Allen showed an early aptitude for engineering. Thus, when he was old enough, his father began to take him to work with him, teaching him and allowing him to help repair less vital systems. As time went on, however, Allen showed aptitudes for other things as well. For one, he seemed to adapt almost immediately to any of the shuttles that the colony used. Thus, he was given clearance to fly any of the shuttles that his father needed for any job, even the runabouts. But his first love was still fixing things, tinkering, and even designing new things to get the job done better. At 18, he left to further his training as both an engineer and a pilot. During this time of training, he met and fell in love with Kathleen "Katy" Evelynn Callaghan. He was 21, and she was 20. They dated for the next eight years, and were on the edge of getting married. The universe had other ideas. Katy was killed in the craziness that the galaxy had become, and Allen fell into a deep depression. It did not help that Katy's brother blamed Allen for her death since she had gone with Allen when it happened. For a time, Allen lost himself and his focus on engineering. Everything was just too painful. And so, he devoted himself to a completely new career. He became an information merchant, researching each request personally as it kept his mind off of his own pain. The problem with that was that, by the time he was 32, he became the best in that business. And that got him noticed by a rogue intelligence group calling itself Sigma Triple Black. That organization's leader used Allen to track people instead of information and forced him to do this through forms of telepathic torture that would give any sane person nightmares. It did give Allen nightmares and still does. He was given the moniker of The Fox and assigned a group of heavies called The Hounds. They were Search (Allen) and Retrieval (The Hounds) for four years until he was mysteriously extricated from Sigma Triple Black -- he has no idea who his benefactor was. At this point, he decided to make himself as unseen as possible, fearing that his former boss might be able to track him. He returned to his first love, engineering, and began a small repair business. No job was too small or too large or too far away. And then, 3 years later, when the information came to him of the FarVoyager Project, he saw his chance to go far away from his old boss, hopefully far enough away that they couldn't find him. He applied as an engineer and was accepted... as the chief engineer. He would prefer not to be so conspicuous, but until someone else comes along, he's it. |

Medical | Mental Health: While working for Sigma Triple Black, he was repeatedly telepathically violated and tortured, both for failures and as "motivation not to fail". He has nightmares about these things but hides this. Katy's death also occasionally haunts him as most of the time he knows it wasn't his fault, but every once in a while, he feels guilty for it. Physical Health: Allen is in good physical health. |
